The Department of Zoology is one of the enriched Departments of Narajole Raj College. The Department of Zoology of Narajole Raj College has had a short but a glorious history.

The Zoology (General) Course was first introduced in 2001. At first, the course was taught at old building i.e., “RAJ BHAWAN” and the Zoology (Honours) course was first introduced in 2013 now at new building from December 2012, onwards. Side by side with the traditional Honours Course like English, Bengali, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Chemistry, Botany, Mathematics, a new feather has been added to the teaching courses by introducing Zoology as Honours Subject. This course offers an opportunity for a comprehensive study of animal biodiversity, animal behavior, taxonomy, ecology, physiology, biochemistry, genetics, cell & molecular biology, microbiology, developmental biology, environmental management, etc. through class-room lectures, practicals, interactive sessions, seminars, workshops and field studies. Lectures through power point presentation and demonstrations are some of the methods adopted by the faculty to make the teaching - learning process more interesting and purposeful. The Department enjoys top reputation in the College and also in the University with very dedicated Faculty members who are highly qualified in their respective fields of specialization.

The department has well equipped laboratories and an Instrument Room with several instruments to meet the academic demands of the students. The department also has an innumerable animal specimens, slides, illustrative charts, etc. The Department boasts of a very well-stocked library and net-enabled computer for students' use.

The department has its faculty highly qualified and experienced scientists devoted to original and path breaking research. At present the charge of the department is entrusted to DR. POULAMI ADHIKARY MUKHERJEE, Assistant Professor & Head of Department of Zoology. In fine, we are sure, despite certain infrastructural inadequacies of our ZOOLOGY DEPARTMENT, we have our guts as well as parts to let the Department go on ahead to fulfil our long cherished desire, provided we are enriched, empowered and invigorated with kind co – operation and inspiration in all respects from the part of our honourable higher authority i.e, U.G.C. Let us, therefore, hope for the best keeping this hard mission in mind.The students and the teachers work very hard for the overall development of the department and they go on ahead to fulfil their long-cherished desire of enrichment of the Department, keeping this hard mission in mind. Every year the students pass the Vidyasagar University examination with flying colours.
